Announcing our new Executive Director ... Kate Tibone!

Hello friends and supporters of Powerful Voices!

We are pleased to announce that Kate Tibone will join us as our new Executive Director, beginning on December 1st. Our Board and Staff could not be more thrilled to welcome to our team such a dedicated advocate of girls and women, at a time when our work is more important than ever

Over the past few months, we conducted a thoughtful and careful search process, which yielded candidates from the Seattle community and around the country. Prior to beginning this search, we identified the most important characteristics and skill sets we were looking for in a new leader to move Powerful Voices forward. Kate exemplifies all those criteria. We are confident she will be a great new partner for the Board, a creative and supportive leader for the Staff and an engaging representative of Powerful Voices with all our community partners and donors.

Kate brings years of experience to this role and has devoted her entire career to improving the lives of underserved women and girls, both around the world and right here in our community. Prior to joining Powerful Voices, Kate led program and policy initiatives at Women’s Funding Alliance focused on securing economic opportunity for women and girls in Washington. Before that, she spent 10 years in the field of global health focused on promoting a world where all girls, young people, and women have access to the opportunities and tools they need to live healthy, safe, and full lives.

"I am thrilled to lead Powerful Voices into its next chapter," said Kate. "Increasing quality programming and expanding leadership opportunities will help girls grow into strong, confident, and empowered women. We know that girls are a force for change in our community, and when girls lead and thrive, our future is brighter and our communities are stronger.”

Kate will continue the momentum Powerful Voices is building to support girls, ages 12-18, at a crucial point in their lives. With unique programming, including our Develop Your Voice and Speak Youth framework, girls are exploring their capabilities, creating community and going on to become social justice leaders and change-makers. Kate will join us as we celebrate our 21st year serving more than 6,000 girls in the Seattle area. Powerful Voices alumni like Aretha Basu explain the impact of our program well when she says, “A Powerful Voices’ mentor invested in me and helped me to get where I am today. To be a young person trying to make sense of the world today is difficult… Powerful Voices helped me find my way and my voice.”

We plan to introduce Kate to the Powerful Voices community in early 2017. We are working on details for a welcome event and will send out invitations soon. In the meantime, we hope you will take a moment to welcome Kate and share your hopes and excitement for our organization as she gets settled in.

Thank you for your continued belief in our mission and the incredible girls we support.

Best wishes,
~ Yeletta
