Powerful Voices is highlighting alumna Tyra, who was involved in our ActiveVistas program at age 16. Where are you now and what are you doing?
Right now I'm at home, eating this apple lol.. just playing! I'm working all the time saving up tons! Crossing my fingers I get accepted into Americorps in Pittsburgh! Yes the East coast I need to get away for a bit, I also have family out there.
How did you get involved with Powerful Voices?
During group in another organization I was involved in [The Service Board-TSB], a mentor, Sarah, made an announcement about Powerful Voices hiring young ladies for ActiveVistas so I applied for the job.
What was your first impression of Powerful Voices?
It looked mad chill and I wondered why I never heard about this years ago?!
Looking back, how did Powerful Voices impact your life?
Getting my attention on situations and issues that affect girls and what we go through that need to be advertised more.
What is the best thing that has happened to you since being involved with Powerful Voices?
The best thing that has happened to me since being involved with Powerful Voices is realizing that I'm not alone.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
That I have never been on a plane before and that I'm from West Virginia, lol.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
What do you think are important issues affecting girls?
Violence, Stereotypes, Abuse, and Bullying.
What would you like to change about the world?
This is an essay type of answer, haha. I'm eating right now so honestly one of the first things that popped in my mind were prices on healthy/organic foods. Everyone wants to eat healthier but it's more expensive than the non-healthier foods.
What is your dream for girls?
To run the world.
