The Impacts of Unhealthy Caregiver Relationships
Since the end of January 2014, 10 young women have been working at Powerful Voices on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 4-7pm. Recruited from program partner and funder, Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative (SYVPI), the youth live or go to school in central, west, and south Seattle. In Feburary, each ActiveVista (AV) was paired with an adult volunteer, or Adult Ally (AA), who supports and learns along side them throughout the program.
In workshops facilitated by guest presenters, Employment Coodinator, Antasia Parker and Employment Assistant, Viche Thomas, AVs and their AAs explored issues that impact youth in our society such as racism, sexism, exploitation, violence, and relationships.
Their job was to create, develop and facilitate an hour-long workshop on a topic related to women and girls’ health and safety. At Girlvolution, they share the result of their hard work and explorations in these topics. Join the Girlvolution - 100% youth-led, social justice conference - on April 12, 2014 from 10am-4pm.
