Important News From Powerful Voices

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Dear Friends of Powerful Voices,

We are reaching out to you with the announcement that after five highly successful years, Jane Hinton is resigning from her position as Executive Director.  We know that many of you have come to know Jane and all that she's done at Powerful Voices. Though we are sad to see her go, we are excited for her as she embarks on a new adventure. Please join us in wishing Jane well.

Thanks to a talented team of staff and volunteers, with Jane at the helm, in the past five years Powerful Voices partnered with 1,630 girls and 1,149 allies empowering girls to:

  • feel proud of who they are.
  • build safe and healthy relationships.
  • become leaders and change-makers.
  • work together for justice and equity in their communities. And so much more!
Under her leadership as Executive Director, Jane focused on many important initiatives to support the girls we serve. Here is just a small sampling of the successes that put Powerful Voices in a strong position as we embark on a leadership transition:

Expansion of our award winning gender-based violence prevention curriculum through strategic partnerships.

With her guidance, the Board of Directors created a Strategic Framework to guide decision-making at all levels of the organization.

Expansion of our high-caliber Girlvolution Conference to include more programs, an increased attendance and partner involvement.

Investments that doubled the growth and the reach of Case Management Services, adding a third annual employment program cohort.

Increased support of our valued employees, including additional resources for professional development and instituting regular Trauma Stewardship coaching for employees.

Expansion of our Powerful Choices program with four new partners to serve an additional 60 girls a year.

The Board of Directors is deeply committed to our organizational mission and we will fully support our employees to ensure they continue to deliver quality programming. In order to ensure there is no interruption of business functions after Jane's departure on July 26, we are securing an Interim Director to manage operations.

Guided by a Powerful Voices Strategic Framework and the voices of our community, we will lead a thorough, thoughtful, and strategic search for our next Executive Director.
We invite you to join us as we embark on this exciting next stage in the development of Powerful Voices.  Please feel free to direct any comments, questions or feedback to Yeletta Banks, Board President at yeletta@mac.com or Jane Hinton at janeh@powerfulvoices.org, 206-860-1026.

Sincerely,

The Powerful Voices Board of Directors

A MESSAGE FROM JANE

Dear Powerful Voices community,

It has been a joy and privilege to serve as Executive Director of this girlvolutionary organization since 2011.  Building on the legacy of hundreds of staff and volunteers who came before us, I had the honor of partnering with 34 staff and 29 Directors to move forward Powerful Voices' mission.  I am proud of our collective achievements.  Today Powerful Voices is stronger than ever, and it is because of all of you.  Thank you.

At the heart of Powerful Voices, is a transformative experience for girls who are most impacted by oppression and violence.  Within our groups and in partnership with adult allies, girls cultivate their power and voice.  On my first day of work at Powerful Voices, a staff member said to me, "Don't be afraid to use your power."   As we move through this transition, I ask you to use your power to support the girls, staff and volunteers of Powerful Voices, ensuring they all continue to thrive.   With your support, I am confident that a new Executive Director will steward this small and mighty organization into it's third decade of ensuring that strong girls become strong women.

There really are no words to capture how much I believe in Powerful Voices.  Over the next several months I will be making my transition from Executive Director to Powerful Voices biggest fan.

In gratitude and solidarity,
Jane Hinton
Executive Director
